The wood has been cut from the trees surrounding the Laindon Centre as part of essential works.
Natural Elements UK, Swan’s grounds maintenance partners, have been working to cut back the overgrown trees surrounding the shopping centre.
Many of the branches, from a variety of different trees, are the perfect raw material for Derek’s wood carving. Derek plans to use the wood with his group to produce turned and intricately carved objects.
“I am delighted to have received such a large variety of different wood and I am looking forward to working on it once it has been seasoned.”
Geoff Pearce, Executive Director Development and Regeneration said:
“Swan are constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and to work with local communities. Derek’s project allows us to achieve both of these objectives simultaneously. We’re really looking forward to seeing some of the finished work.”
